Christmas is upon us once more, and as we stand at the close of 2024, we find ourselves at a pivotal moment, reflecting on a year marked by extraordinary achievements and looking ahead to the great strides that await us.
This year has been a defining one for our sector. We have led the way in technological advancements, innovation and artificial intelligence (AI) integration, whilst aligning ourselves with government initiatives to deliver on ambitious electric vehicle (EV) targets. Together, we have proven that our industry does not merely adapt to change – it drives it.
One of our most significant accomplishments has been a landmark collaboration. For the first time, two membership organisations have demonstrated that professionalism and cooperation can achieve something remarkable: the delivery of the private parking sector Single Code of Practice by the British Parking Association (BPA) and International Parking Community (IPC). This success stands as a testament to our shared belief in transparency, fairness, and the seamless journey we create for motorists. It reflects our unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of efficiency and professionalism in all that we do.
In recent days, I have been deeply inspired by the extraordinary achievements of friends, colleagues, and organisations across our community. To name just a few: Flowbird, Go2Sim, AppyWay, Schiedt & Bachmann, APCOA and JustPark, each of whom has ended the year triumphantly, securing new clients and reaffirming their leadership in this ever-evolving landscape.
Yet beyond commercial success, it is the heart of this community that shines brightest. This year, I have witnessed the parking and mobility sector rise with a spirit of generosity and compassion that transcends borders. My parking family, as I proudly call you all, has shown a profound commitment to those less fortunate, dedicating time and resources to make a real difference.
From Alejandra Argudin’s tireless support for The WOW Centre in Miami (USA), to Jaime Lopez de Aguilar’s efforts aiding DANA victims in Valencia (Spain), to DCBL’s work supporting disability initiatives in Rugby and their contributions to cat charities, and the IPC’s magnificent fundraising gala for COSMIC OSCAR’s – each initiative reflects the humanity and kindness that underpins our sector. These efforts are not just commendable; they are a powerful reminder of the warmth and integrity that define us.
This year has brought the world of parking, mobility, sustainable travel, and innovation closer together than ever before. As I travelled across continents, I had the privilege of meeting exceptional leaders and visionaries: Shawn Conrad (USA), Angelique Mentis (Past president, Parking Australia), Sandra Hoveland (Norway), and so many others. These encounters reinforced a simple truth: when we collaborate across borders, we create a more connected, consistent, and effortless experience for all.
At the same time, we continue to work hand-in-hand with adjudication services, the Department for Transport, the Justice Department, the police and the DVLA. Together, we are committed to enhancing the experience of motorists, tackling challenges like fraud and Blue Badge abuse, and driving forward initiatives that will shape the future of our sector. The passion and dedication of those involved are unmatched, and in the months to come, I know we will hear their inspiring stories.
But the true measure of our success lies in you. Each one of you has contributed to this year’s achievements with relentless dedication, unparalleled professionalism, and an enduring spirit of innovation. You are the driving force behind our progress, and I could not be prouder to stand alongside you.
As we look to 2025, I see a future filled with possibility, ambition and excellence. I have no doubt that your hard work and brilliance will light the way as we continue to transform our sector and the lives we touch. In particular the rise of Global event for International Women in Parking spearheaded by Nicole Hankins (USA) and Angelique Mentis.
To you, your families, and your colleagues, I extend my warmest wishes for a Merry Christmas and a New Year filled with joy, fulfilment, and boundless opportunity. Let us meet the future with courage, vision, and the same unwavering passion that has brought us so far.
