A major investment programme is needed to increase the amount of car parking at rail stations where demand is greatest, according to passenger representative body Passenger Focus.
It says passenger surveys reveal that car parking facilities at stations are a common source of dissatisfaction. “Research indicates that a lack of available spaces can suppress demand for rail travel, or at least increase the proportion of the journey being undertaken by car.”
