Ealing patrol staff call off strike after accepting pay deal

The strike by Ealing civil enforcement officers (CEOs) due to take place tomorrow has been called off. A settlement has been reached by trade union Unite, which represents the CEOs, and the London borough’s parking contractor NSL.

CEOs voted by a majority to accept a two-year pay deal of 2% for 2014 and 1.5% for 2015.

Unite regional officer Michelle Braveboy said: “Our members have voted to accept the two-year pay deal and, as a result, the strike due to be held tomorrow has been called off. I congratulate our members for the solidarity they have shown during this dispute.”

NSL head of communications Belinda Webb said: “We are pleased that our valued colleagues in Ealing have chosen not to strike and have accepted a 3.5% pay deal over two years.

“CEOs play an essential role in the community and Ealing will continue to have full cover to ensure traffic flow, road safety, and safe and fair parking in the borough.”

Industrial action involving CEOs in Ealing was narrowly averted last October, when a previously rejected 1.5% pay offer for 2013/14 was increased to 2% and backdated to April 2013 for basic and overtime rates.
