Britain’s five main bus operators are developing a business case to put contactless debit/creditcard ticketing on every bus across Britain by 2022.
The project is being developed by Stagecoach, First Bus, Go-Ahead, Arriva and National Express.
The business case for the investment is due to be completed by the spring and the operators say the Tyne and Wear region would be the first area to benefit, from April 2017.
