Andy Burnham has promised to “re-regulate” Greater Manchester’s bus network if he becomes the conurbation’s first directly elected mayor. But he stopped short of committing to use the franchising powers of the Bus Services Bill.

The Labour candidate in the 4 May election has pledged to end the “free-for-all” of buses on the conurbation’s road network.
