Dogs are vulnerable when left in a warm car

The RSPCA is reminding motorists not to leave their dogs alone in cars on a warm day as this can quickly prove fatal.

“While many people believe it is okay to leave a dog in a car on a hot day if the windows are left open or they’ve parked in the shade, the truth is that it’s still a very dangerous situation for the dog. A car can become as hot as an oven very quickly, when it doesn’t feel that warm. When it’s 22 degrees, in a car it can reach an unbearable 47 degrees within the hour.”

The RSPCA recommends that if people see a dog left in a parked car on a warm day that they call the police. In an emergency, we may not be able to attend quickly enough, and with no powers of entry, we’d need police assistance at such an incident.
