Bus builder calls for new vehicle spend

Bus manufacturer Alexander Dennis is urging the UK Government and devolved administrations to commit to a programme to build up to 10,000 ultra-low and zero emission buses over the next four years. The company says many would be battery electric but others could by hydrogen powered for routes where battery range is inadequate. ADL employs 2,500 staff in the UK. It has seen orders for new buses slump because of Covid-19.  Rival manufacturer Wrightbus recently called on the Government to fund 3,000 hydrogen fuel cell buses (LTT 01 May).
