The DfT has signed a direct award contract with Arriva extending its operation of the Cross Country franchise until October 2023. Arriva, part of German state rail operator DB, has run the franchise since 2007. The Government will take the revenue and cost risk. The new contract complements the emergency recovery measures agreement put in place in September, which sees the Government pay the operator a small management fee to keep services running during the Covid-19 pandemic.
