Bus operators were seeing profitability fall before Covid-19 struck, according to an analysis of operator accounts for 2018/19.
Profits dropped for the fourth year in a row, and were the lowest since this analysis began in 1991, says market intelligence firm Passenger Transport Monitor (PTM).
PTM’s analysis of 107 local bus companies around the country found operating margins averaged 4.5 per cent in 2018/19, down from 6.2 per cent in 2017/18.
