Inverness station platform scheme blocked as benefits ‘can’t be quantified’

A £400,000 scheme which would improve the flexibility of train use of Inverness station is not proceeding because ScotRail is unable to quantify the benefits.

Currently Inter7City trains, which operate over the Highland main line from the central belt, are restricted to Platform 1 at Inverness. With five passenger coaches and a power car at each end, they are significantly longer than ScotRail’s diesel units. Platform 2 is not available to them because Caledonian Sleeper and LNER...
