Midlands Connect is seeking funding from Government to upgrade to the A5/A426 Gibbet Hill junction on the Warwickshire/Leicestershire border.
The junction - which connects the A5, M1 and M6 - is the third worst bottleneck along the A5 corridor, said the Sub-national Transport Body for the region. This results in severe delays which hamper the efficient movement of goods, it adds.
