Simpler and cheaper fares are being credited with reversing a 20-year decline in public transport trips made by children in Tyne and Wear. Nexus reports an 11% rise in child trips – equivalent to over 906,000 extra journeys – between last September, when the new fares were introduced, and March. Nexus subsidises the £1 ‘Cat’ (Child Allday Ticket) and 50p single fares, paying operators the difference between the ticket price and the normal commercial fare....
