Stricter rules for the use of brown tourist signs are to be introduced in England.
Visit Scotland and the Welsh Tourist Board already have to recognise tourist attractions as qualifying for a brown sign in their jurisdictions but Visit England performs no such role.
“This has brought pressure from private enterprises, such as retail parks, on traffic authorities in England to represent their businesses as tourist destinations on traffic signs,” says the DfT.
