Dumfries and Galloway Council wants the Scottish Government to give local authorities on the Scottish mainland the power to run bus services.
The council wrote last month to transport minister Derek Mackay pointing out that the Transport Act 1985 prohibits Scottish mainland councils – but not island councils – from holding a public service vehicle operator licence.
