Scottish Borders Council is taking advantage of low interest rates to pay off its contribution to re-opening the Borders Railway between Edinburgh and Tweedbank. Under the funding deal struck with Transport Scotland, local authorities agreed to fund £30m of the railway’s costs, broken down as: Scottish Borders (£15.3m), Midlothian (£11.6m) and Edinburgh (£2.9m).
