Virgin Group chairman Richard Branson praised the design of his company’s Pendolino train for limiting casualties in last month’s Grayrigg train derailment. One passenger died and five of the 115 people on board were seriously injured as a result of faulty points.
He described the train as “built like a tank” and said the Rail Accident Investigation Branch’s findings were a “testament to the Pendolino’s strength and design”.
