The Isle of Wight Council's deputy chief executive, John Lawson, has been sacked and six councillors have resigned over a road scheme that has now been scrapped, following the publication of an independent report. The council had awarded High-Point Rendel the £18m contract to repair Undercliff Drive which had collapsed into the sea. The contract was awarded without going through a competitive tender process.
