MPs launch inquiry into road tax as Darling scraps fuel duty rise again

Motoring organisations have welcomed the Government's decision to abandon this autumn's proposed rise in fuel duty and stepped up their campaign for an overhaul of road taxation.

That pressure could intensify with the news that the House of Commons transport committee is to hold an inquiry into taxes and charges on road users. Among the issues the MPs will consider are: how much tax the Government collects from motorists and how much is spent on the road network; the impact of existing taxes...
