Work has started on building a 13km dual carriageway road on the north-west side of the existing A421. It includes improvements to the M1 junction 13 and new grade separated junctions at Maston Moretaine and Marsh Leys. Traffic-light controlled junctions will replace three roundabouts on the A6 between the A421 and Elstow Road and include bus priority measures. Following completion of the new road in December next year the existing A421 will be retained for local traffic.
