Plans for a bus-based rapid transit network in west London have taken a step forward with the news that London mayor Boris Johnson expressed interest in the scheme.
The move follows a meeting with Johnson representatives from Brent and Ealing about Fastbus, which would link Wembley, Park Royal and Acton.
Alongside Lib Dem London Assembly transport spokesman Caroline Pidgeon, the case for FastBus was put to the mayor by representatives from business leaders as well as representatives from Brent and Ealing Councils. At the meeting the mayor agreed that Transport for London should work with Park Royal Partnership and also council officers from both Brent and Ealing to progress the new bus service.
“It is good news that the mayor has now heard at first hand the powerful arguments for FastBus. Boris confirmed he liked the idea, as long as it can be introduced in an affordable way,” commented Pidgeon. “I think he is beginning to understand how FastBus would transform travel in west London.”
Transit will be presenting its fifth annual Bus as Rapid Transit conference in London on April 22 2009.
