With 37 years in the industry, with consistent year-on-year improvements, with a deep respect by the people who work with him and for him, and with a pride and passion for his people, his passengers and his profession, Mike Brinicombe is a very extraordinary engineering manager.

He impressed with both the length and the quality of his service to the industry rising from the post of apprentice fitter with GM Buses to his present role as fleet engineer at Princess Road depot - the largest single depot in Stagecoach’s UK bus operations.

The judges said: “We were particularly impressed by the key skills of planning and control, attention to detail and a passion for the job - all of which quite clearly lead to outstanding skills in engineering management.”
