Punishment continues as National Express loses East Anglia rail franchise

Transport secretary Lord Adonis has informed National Express Group that it will terminate its East Anglia rail franchise in early 2011 without extension.

The franchise will now end on March 31, 2011. NEG could have won a franchise extension until 2014 had it not defaulted on its East Coast franchise that was taken into public ownership earlier this month. The future of the group's other remaining rail franchise, London to Essex operator c2c remains under consideration.
