London mayor Boris Johnson has awarded Westminster City Council £7m for a scheme to reintroduce two-way traffic on Piccadilly, St James and Pall Mall and declutter the area by removing over 1km of guardrailing. Consultant Atkins is the scheme’s designer; the firm was also responsible for the recent redesign of the Oxford Circus interchange. Five projects in Lambeth, Hackney, Camden, Enfield and Merton will share £4.7m.
Peter Heath, the Head of Public Realm at Atkins will be discussing this at LTTs 15th Annual Quality Streetscapes Conference, "Better Streets, Better Places" this April
