Halton’s bridge plan is a quirk of local government reform

It’s a shame that a well-regarded publication such as LTT didn’t seek any independent views before publishing the article on the proposed ‘Gateway’ bridge across the Mersey at Runcorn.

The case for the new bridge seems to rest on two arguments. The first is the rather bizarre contention that an additional bridge would actually reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and the second that the existing bridge somehow ‘cuts off’ the two parts of Halton.
