High-speed rail not a priority say planners

Few transport professionals believe building a high-speed rail network should be a top priority for the Government, according to a survey of Transport Planning Society members.

Just 18% of members responding to the survey identified high-speed rail as a priority and just 9% prioritised trunk road improvements.

The top priorities were travel behaviour change polices (61%), road maintenance (57%), walking and cycling (55%), and non-high speed rail capacity increases (53%).
