A leading transport academic has launched a stinging attack on current Government policies, claiming that ministers fail to understand the importance of spatial planning.

Peter Headicar made the comments in a speech to mark two events: his retirement as a reader in the Department of Planning at  Oxford Brookes University; and the closure of the University’s MSc in transport planning and other transport programmes in the department.
