Fares prompt 50% drop in users of Leeds city centre shuttle bus

Passenger numbers on the Leeds city centre shuttle bus service have more than halved since fares were introduced in April.

Metro director general Kieran Preston told councillors last week that patronage had fallen from 125,000 to 60,000 a month following introduction of a 50p fare.

The service had originally been free, with funding coming from Leeds City Council and the West Yorkshire Integrated Transport Authority. But Leeds withdrew its funding at the end of March as part of budget...
