Good case for high-speed rail but rethink West Mids route, say MPs

Britain needs a high-speed rail network but ministers should rethink the alignment of the London-West Midlands route, according to the House of Commons transport committee.

The MPs say there is a “good case” for a high-speed rail network because of the extra capacity and connectivity between cities that it would provide. But the committee has not endorsed the proposed alignment for the first line from London to the West Midlands via the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty....
