Calgary gets Xerox smart despatch and AVL system for its 1000 bus fleet

Calgary Transit is installing a CAN$14.5 million full-scale computer-aided dispatch and automatic vehicle location (CAD/AVL) system developed by technology giant Xerox to manage its nearly 1000 buses, which carry 100 million passenger trips a year. Bus dispatchers will be able to use real-time information collected and collated by the new system to create detours round obstructions and insert additional services when indicated by passenger demand.
