Scrap metal bill passed by Parliament

22 February 2013

A Bill designed to crack down on metal theft has been passed by the House of Commons and is expected to come into force by April. The Scrap Metal Dealers Bill originated as a Private Members Bill, was brought by Richard Ottaway MP.

The Bill, passed on 12 February, will see whole-scale reform of the UK scrap metal industry and aims to save councils both time and money in dealing with the damage caused by metal theft such as manhole and drain covers, copper cabling and wiring and lead piping.
