The percentage of people who commute to work in England and Wales by car or van fell between 2001 and 2011, according to Census data published by the UK Office of National Statistics.
The ONS reports:
• a fall in the percentage of commuters travelling to work by car/van as a driver or passenger – from 61.5% to 59.2%
• an increase in the proportion of people working at or from home – from 9.2% to 10.7%
