Merthyr Tydfil car park mixes wood and steel

The new Castle multi-storey car park in Merthyr Tydfil, south Wales, has a structure that combines steel and wood. The three-level MSCP was built on the site of a surface car park.

The Ecodex structure,  designed and built by Bourne Parking, combines birch plywood decks with a steel frame. Nick Hayes, managing director at Bourne Parking, said this combines the environmental benefits of timber  construction with strength of steel. Ecodex also reduces build time by 30%, he said.
