Philip Bisatt suggests that Stoke is a better location for an HS2 station than Crewe (Letters LTT 31 Oct). He points out that the highly constrained layout at Crewe prevents the operation of direct through trains from Stoke to Liverpool and North Wales, which would result in more rail journeys. Stoke to Liverpool is the typical journey that the Chancellor wants to improve to grow the economy of the ‘Northern Powerhouse’.
