The Government’s proposal for an elected mayor-led combined authority (CA) for Bristol and the surrounding area may unravel because of local opposition.

An elected mayor-led CA was part of the West of England devolution agreement announced by the Chancellor in his March Budget. The West of England geography is the four unitary authorities in the former Avon County Council area: Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Bath and North East Somerset, and North Somerset.
