The DfT is to combine Inter City West Coast services and HS2 services into a single rail franchise.
The West Coast Partnership (WCP) franchise will be responsible for intercity services on the West Coast Main Line from 2019 and designing and then running the initial high-speed services over the London-West Midlands HS2 route, which is due to open at the end of 2026.
