The Scottish transport minister Humza Yousaf is today expected to give details of £3m the Scottish Government said will be invested in "targeted fare reductions" for train travellers.
The Scottish finance secretary Derek Mackay told MSPs at Holyrood that he would not back a rail fares freeze as some of them had demanded, which he said would have a cumulative cost by 2020 of £58m, "compromising the investment programme". But he instead announced £3m of fare reductions "to ease costs for passengers and thank them for their patience" following issues with ScotRail services.
STV reported this morning that Yousaf will spell out what this means.
