Campaigners make case for Borders rail

Campaigners for the full restoration of the Borders Railways between Edinburgh and Carlisle have set out the case in a new report. 

The 98-mile line closed in 1969 but the 35.5-mile northern section between Edinburgh and Tweedbank, south of Galashiels, re-opened in September 2015. 

The Campaign for Borders Rail now wants the line restored between Tweedbank and Carlisle,  serving the settlements of Melrose, St Boswells, Hawick, Newcastleton and Longtown. Much of the line passes...
