Report reveals Government concern over HS2 affordability

The Government’s Major Projects Authority voiced concern about the affordability of HS2 in September 2015, questioning whether the budget was big enough to allow the routes to Manchester and Leeds to be completed.

The MPA raised concerns in a review of the Government’s decision to accelerate the delivery of phase 2a of the project – the route from Staffordshire to Crewe – so that it opens in 2027, six years earlier than previously planned.
