The City of York Council is to  toughen up restrictions on vehicles in the city centre and near the racecourse in response to heightened national concerns about vehicle-borne terror attacks. 

York city centre has a number of pedestrian streets (‘footstreets’) created using Traffic Regulation Orders. The restrictions operate between 10.30 and 17.00 seven days a week, with restrictions mainly enforced using bollards. Some footstreets, however,  permit disabled vehicle...
