Academics have told the City of York Council to reduce the area’s carbon dioxide emissions by 13 per cent a year.
The Tyndall Centre at the University of Manchester has told the council that in order to make its “fair” contribution towards the Paris climate change agreement, the area should stay within a maximum cumulative carbon dioxide emissions budget of 5.4 million tonnes (MtCO2) for the period of 2020 to 2100.
