HS2 lines to central London, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds should all be axed, with the project’s purpose reduced to a capacity relief scheme between Old Oak Common and Crewe, a peer has told MPs.

Labour peer Lord Berkeley wrote to every MP this week saying the Government will find it impossible to deliver the whole project, from London to Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds, within the official funding envelope of £55.7bn (2015 prices).
