Rail use down 20 per cent, but road traffic up

The number of rail passengers using stations in north-east Scotland has fallen 21 per cent since peaking in 2014/15, according to figures published this week by Nestrans, the North East Scotland transport partnership.

Data from the Office of Rail and Road indicates that throughput at the region’s eight stations climbed from 4,641,314 in 2010/11 to 6,032,870 in 2014/15 but has since fallen back to 4,746,642 in 2017/18. 

The 2017/18 figure represents a two per cent rise on 2010/11....
