Midlands Connect has asked the Government for £45.5m to develop a multi-billion pound programme of rail enhancements dubbed ‘Midlands Engine Rail’.
The funding will pay for the next stages of development work to the projects, which Midlands Connect says could start to be delivered from 2022 onwards.
