Road improvements dominate this week’s award of £374m Housing Infrastructure Fund grant to five councils in southern England. But Medway Council has also received funding to explore a passenger service on a freight-only railway.

Medway has won the biggest award – £170m to facilitate  10,600 new homes around the village of Hoo St Werburgh on the Hoo Peninsula.
