Northumberland progresses with passenger rail re-opening

Northumberland County Council has received an outline business case for reintroducing passenger services over the freight-only railway between Newcastle and Ashington. 

The council wants to introduce a half-hourly service with an end-to-end journey time of less than, or as close as possible, to 30 minutes. There will ultimately be six stations, at Ashington, Bedlington, Blyth Bebside, Newsham, Seaton Delaval and Northumberland Park.
