The Committee on Climate Change has urged the Government to increase vehicle excise duty (VED) on the largest cars. 

The Treasury launched a consultation this spring on reforming VED to encourage the take-up of zero and ultra-low emission vehicles (LTT 23 Mar). It has proposed replacing the system of emission?bands with a system that reflects every gram of CO2 emissions. Differentials could also apply after the first year of registration, unlike now.
