Proposed changes to the HS2 design at Crewe will allow many more high-speed services to call at the town’s station, helping to realise Cheshire East Council’s ambition for the station to become a major HS2 ‘hub’.
The current design for HS2 phase 2a (West Midlands to Crewe) envisages a Crewe tunnel allowing high-speed trains to bypass the station and continue on the dedicated HS2 main line to Manchester, Scotland and other destinations further north.
