High frequency commuter rail could ease M4 jams in SE Wales

The South Wales Main Line between Cardiff, Newport and Severn Tunnel Junction should be reconfigured to accommodate an intensive local rail service to ease pressure on the M4, the final report of the Transport Commission for South East Wales recommends.

The Welsh Government set the commission up last year to devise a new transport plan for the area after ministers rejected the plan for an M4 relief road round the south of Newport.
