TfL and WMCA drop cashless plans

Transport for London and the West Midlands Combined Authority have withdrawn plans for fully cashless ticketing in recognition that many people don’t have bank accounts.

TfL planned to make all ticket offices and machines at Tube, DLR and Overground stations cashless. London TravelWatch lobbied against the change, pointing to the impact this would have on groups such as children and the 260,000 adults in London without a bank account.
