IRP questions viability of proposals for a Manchester underground station

The Integrated Rail Plan (IRP) has triggered concerns over long-term value for money and planning blight by opting for an above-ground terminus station in Manchester for HS2.

Last year, regional leaders presented proposals for the city’s new HS2 station to be sub-surface, with tunnels continuing north-eastwards to enable trains from Liverpool to continue to Leeds without reversal.
